3 MM DPNS “And Then I Don’t Feel So Bad”

A few days ago, I saw a MasterCard ad on TV. It was one of the ads in the “priceless” series.

The add depicted a young woman engaging in daring and wonderful sports activities while she was singing My Favorite Things. Of course, each activity was tagged with its cost.

I don’t know why this ad made me start to think. I usually find the “priceless” MasterCard ads entertaining, but not thought provoking.

Who knows why the mind starts making associations. But, when the ad was over, it occurred to me that if I have a set of 5, 6″, double-pointed needles in my hands, and I am working on a simple tube for a sock or a glove, I go into an immediate meditative state.

No matter what stresses there were in my life at the given moment, they disappear. It’s a very odd phenomenon.

I can knit two complicated socks, at the same time, on one long circ, more quickly than I can make one sock on a set of double points. The process is fun and depending on the design intellectually stimulating, but not comforting.

For some reason, knitting with short dpns in sizes 2.75 mm to 3.25 mm, is an end in itself. I never think about finishing. My psyche and body become one with the rhythm of the hand movement.

I only need to pick up a set of fine gauge dpn’s and some sock yarn, “and then I don’t feel so bad”.

  1. La La La. (Thinking about your personal commercial and dancing around.)

  2. My younges son says I look like I am hypnotized when I spin or knit…….he is almost right, it is when I am the most relaxed and recharged to handle the ripples of life! Glad you share this ’state of being’ with us!

  3. Carole,

I know exactly what you mean…..there’s just something magical about dpns that soothes the soul!
